Welcome To Evan Beck Online Blog

RSS 2 RRS

The Evan Beck Online Blog is the less serious and more unconventional side of EvanBeckOnline.com. I intend this to be a place where I can test drive ideas, develop new concepts, and write or rant about anything else that comes to mind. It should, however, still be a great resource for posting fun things related to Alex Jeffreys, the MWA (Marketing With Alex) students, and an online potpourri of factoids related to IM.

This will be a place to report the more wacky tips and tricks related to traffic generation and list building techniques. In fact, this blog is what I call a “feeder blog”, and is an experiment in its own right. I have tried to search and research the term “build a blog on top of a blog” with no results.

I may find that this is not such a great idea, that this already has been explored before, or that it is nothing that revolutionary. After all, there are some references and a few things written about “feeder blogs”, but these usually describe a blog network, or the concept of micro-blogging with platforms like Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger, etc. to send traffic and links back to a landing page, or e-commerce site. BTW, that’s a great concept and also works.

This blog is designed to “feed extra content” and “feed extra traffic” to the main domain more or less on auto-pilot. I have used this concept to feed content and traffic to static html websites before, and I have tested it enough to know that it works quite well. Here are two examples of feeder blogs that I have created, tested, and continue to be used: blog.ruggednotebooks.com and toughbookdepot.com/blog

They both rank on page one of Google for competitive niches with highly competitive keywords.

So, the experimental aspect here for this blog is that this is the first time I have actually built a blog…on top of another blog, so to speak.

I have installed a second instance of WordPress on a sub-domain of the main domain. It is http://blog.evanbeckonline.com. I don’t believe this will cause any technical issues, but we will see how it goes. In fact, writing about these ideas will be one of the central themes of this blog. There will be some common elements like the About Page, the Contact Page, and the Privacy Policy Page. My thinking is that as a subdomain, it will ride OK. If not we will change things up and see what works.

Another thing I will be doing is powering the site with different plugins for content, experimenting with RSS feeds, and things like linking strategies. This will all be white hat, as I have a hard time doing anything that goes against the Google Webmaster guidelines. So, we will playing by the rules here.

Another intention I have is to experiment and trial different methods of monetizing the blog. Adsense Ads with probably be first, and I can try other PPC schemes.

Another aspect of this blog is the Questions and Answers feature of the blog. These are questions about website traffic and list building. Feel free to answer questions in the comments, and keep the conversation going.

I will revise and finish this post up as we move along. Be sure to visit the main site and leave your comments by following the HOME link below. I need to know what you think about what I am doing, and maybe we can all benefit from it in the future.
