I want to design, publish and maintain a website myself. The idea is that through the traffic my site attracts advertising revenue will be generated. I have no experiece and no funds-just moderate
intelligence, a few ideas and an internet connection… Can you help?
My product sells in general but the website isn’t bringing me the sales I thought it would.
www.sunandmoonpearls.com has been published / hosted for about eight months, It’s registered with the major search engines, it’s been crawled a bunch of times, it’s been optimized to get attention, I’ve purchased google ad space and run it for months, it’s got a Paypal shopping cart, it gets traffic… but no conversions to sales.
I know it’s amateurish – because I am an amature but is it that I don’t have "hackersafe", "Trustee" "BBB" logos on it?
What else should I do?
I am doing some research on peoples shopping behavior,and what kind of habits they use when shopping on line,do most people use search engines like Yahoo,Google,Msn,etc. and what kind of keywords are used ,do they generalise and just go to gifts?I wont mention my site as it is not permited,but just trying to get more traffic.
Could you also let me know of a way that I could generate a lot of traffic to my website?? You help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a website, and advertise on the big sites (autotrader, cars.com, autobytel). I have a good inventory of about 200 cars, pre owned, and a good variety. im an advertising affilate of google adsense. I need to make my site popular. i have added my site to google, yahoo, netscape search n all thhe top 20 search engines. yet, theres no traffic over these 6 months. i have added all the necessary keyword meta tag. i hv tried many seo services, which offr free services. nothin happened. i tried 2 advertise even on chatrooms, bt no one bothered, not a single person. i ha also tried 2 advertise on yahoo answers, bt on 1 bothered 2 visit dat site. the site contains no porn/offensive, it has helpful links on individual investment planning. i also used multiple scrapper 2 scrap my 129 orkut friends, shockingly, no one bothered 2 visit the site! what should i do now, other than del it?
Getting traffic to your web address is much more of a challenge than one would think. By using google’s search engine, it almost cuts your time in half that you would normally spend not using it. I use google analytics to keep track of my traffic. Time spent on, how many pages per visit, how many page views it’s getting each day. I advertise the main page and the register page. Splash pages are a good form of letting people see your site to.
Using all of the social media sites is a real good way of letting people check out your weblink. I know internet advertising is all about traffic, the more
there is, the more you’ll get. It’s like going to a baseball game and no-ones there. So I say feel free to look around and stay awhile, if you stay long enough you just might find what your lookin for.

So currently i have a windows server with .asp web pages. My website is search engine optimised and indexed very well by google and more than 95% of my traffic is from google search.
But now due to some reason i have to change the server to linux server and i wont be able to run .asp pages on it.
I have manually designed and created my web pages and last year i tried using wordpress and the whole thing changed. My traffic and alexa rank dropped to lowest because all the indexed web page gave an page not found error. I changed back to my previous .asp pages and the traffic started rising.
So now if i use .php pages or any cms for that website, then how can i redirect all not found error pages to the home page? Is it something related to custom error pages?
Linux server has htaccess page and windows has web.config. I learned about web.config but not sure about how to do it in htaccess. Any suggestion how can i solve this server switch issue? I dont really want the traffic to drop.

Google is a search engine, YA has informative Q and A’s…it was added to the search list for Google to help spread knowledge (and help Yahoo get traffic) why do people get nervous about that?

I just open an eBay store recently at http://stores.ebay.com/MyWellnessStore and the traffic still slow. I have place some items in the auction, and also write blogs to promote traffic. Besides I have also submit to all search engines and those free ads websites. What else can I do? Any good suggestion? Thanks.

First lets say that you own an e-commerce business and you are leasing this text link monthly…
1) Lets say the homepage is a PR5 site.
2) The text link however, is on a PR unavailable sub-page which displays a complete description, and photos of a 70′ Panasonic Plasma Television.
3) The text link will be your company name, and displayed below the TV in a special section, clearly labeled "Purchase Item Now"
4) Lets say your online store sells the exact same TV on your website.
5) The link will connect directly to the interior of your site, to your page displaying the exact TV.
6) All that’s left for potential buyers of your TV to do, is to click "add to cart" on your website. You’ve made a sale.
Now substitute theTV example with ANY other retail item or service which you sell. The site in question is huge and has it all but the subpages with text links are PR unrated.
Not sure how many page visits/month, just that any traffic will be focused and motivated

How about the other big search engines?
From an SEO perspective, other than direct traffic and perhaps a bit of viral traffic, does maintaining and / or participating in yahoo groups help with search engine optimization?
